What Telfair trees are really up against.
Telfair is a newer master-planned community built primarily in the 2000s and 2010s. Most homes here are 10–20 years old, and the trees were planted by builders or early homeowners — meaning we see a lot of crape myrtles, magnolias, and young live oaks that are still in their training years. Structural pruning now sets these trees up for the next 50 years; topping them or skipping the work creates the codominant failures we'll be removing in future hurricanes. Telfair sits on the same Fort Bend expansive clay as Sugar Land's older neighborhoods, and the same root-zone protection principles apply: no trenching within the dripline, no lawn-equipment contact with the root flare, and proper mulch ring depth (2–3 inches, never against the trunk). Telfair's HOA requires architectural review for tree removal and significant pruning; we coordinate paperwork directly with Telfair management. Common species in Telfair: live oak (builder-planted, most common), crape myrtle (everywhere), southern magnolia, Mexican plum, and bald cypress. Storm response work in Telfair leans toward debris cleanup and minor structural pruning rather than the major takedowns we do in older Sugar Land neighborhoods — the trees simply haven't grown large enough to be major hazards yet, but they will be in 15–20 years.
