What Atascocita trees are really up against.
Atascocita is a large master-planned community east of Humble, built primarily through the 1980s–2000s. The neighborhood was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey flooding in 2017 — Lake Houston's emergency releases during the storm flooded substantial sections, and post-flood tree decline continues to affect some properties. We routinely treat the longer-term consequences: crown dieback, fungal issues in stressed root zones, and structural failures in trees that lost vigor after the prolonged saturation. The Atascocita canopy is a mix of mature loblolly pine, live oak, sweetgum, and southern magnolia. Pine maintenance is the predominant work here: bark beetle vigilance, dead-wooding, and storm-prep pruning. Generation Park and the newer Atascocita master-plan sections have younger canopies still in training years. Common species: loblolly pine (significant), live oak, sweetgum, southern magnolia, and water oak.
